We can perform the following services but the detectors must meet the minimum requirements before we can service it. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR EQUIPMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE RECIEVED A CONFIRMATION MESSAGE FROM OUR LAB THAT WE CAN CHECK IT OUT FIRST.
Minimum Requirements:
- 14 Pin base PMT (We have electronics for 14 pin base photomultiplier tubes only)
- 2 inch PMT base (Most NaI(Tl) detectors on the market today are a 2 inch PMT base)
- We can only perform Cs137 FWHM resolution checks on NaI(Tl) or sodium iodide detectors (thallium and or cesium doped).
- We do not check Geiger counters, neutron detectors or plastic scintillators at this time. (If you have a specific service need for a different type of radiation detector please message us and we will see if we can help you)
Operational checkout includes..
- 8 hour operational background log and analysis for noise, anomalies. A check for normal operation (Results included in your report).
- Cs137 Full Width Half Max or FWHM resolution check. We will check your detector with Cs137 and determine your detector's resolution. This is the industry standard that says "this sodium iodide detector is good or bad". Most in the industry work with a 9% to 10% resolution and below (lower the percentage the better). We will include a Cs137 FWHM certificate in your report. This will tell a buyer your detector is good or it will let you know you have a degraded detector. Sodium diiodide or NaI detectors do degrade over time if operating in harsh conditions. The hermetically sealed chamber holding the sodium iodide crystal will eventually leak and allow moisture to "yellow" or contaminate the crystal thus destroying the detector's resolution (i.e, it will fatten or widen the energy peaks and the detector will not be useful for radioisotope identification.)
- Calibration (in Shop): We will calibrate your detector with our shop electronics and perform a radioisotope identification with Am241, Cs137, Co60, K40, Th232 and U238. (Results included in your report)
- Certificate: (We will provide you a certificate that lists the checks and the grades for the checks. Of course this will include the Cs137 FWHM resolution certificate.
Price $75 per detector and customer will be required to provide a return shipping label in PDF format. Expedited service is available for an increased service fee, we will work with you if it's an emergency.
Bold Guardian Labs have over 20 years experience in radiation detection and nuclear security. We use ORTEC and Nucsafe (now Rapiscan) smart sensor technology.
